Will of Alice Thurtill of Norwich St Julian (Widow of John) 1734, ANW (Archdeaconry of Norwich?)
In the Name of God Amen I Alice Thurtell widow Relict of John Thurtell late of the parish of Saint Julian in the City of Norwich Blacksmith being in perfect mind & memory do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament as Follows, that is to say, First I bequeath my Soul to Almighty God hoping for Salvation through the Meritts and Mediation of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & Redeemer And my body I give & bequeath to the Earth desiring to be buried in a Christian like manner at the Discretion of my Executrix hereinafter to be named And as for my worldly Estate which God hath Graciously bestowed upon me I give & dispose thereof in manner & form Following First of all I give & bequeath to John Thurtell my son one shilling Also I give & bequeath to Henry Thurtell my son the sum of one Shilling Also I give & bequeath to James Thurtell my son one Feather Bed with the Bedstead & other things belonging thereto as this now standing in the Cellar, and a Copper now in the Cellar Also I give & bequeath to Jeremiah Thurtell my youngest son my Best Bed as it stands with Bedstead & Curtains wherein I my Selfe do Commonly Lodge, and Nine Pewter Dishes, twelve Pewter plates three pewter Tankards one Chest of Drawers two Tables, seven Chairs, one Jark(?) for Roasting of Meat and one Fire Grate and an Iron Crane, and two Brass Bogbisc(?) Also I give & bequeath to my Daughter Alice the wife of Robert Blackmore the Sum of Forty Shillings of Good & lawful money of Great Britain and all my wearing Cloaths & Linnen All the sd Sums & Legacies to be paid within the Space of twelve months next after my decease Also all the rest & residue of my Estates, Moneys, Chattles Rights & Dues wtsoever & wheresoever I give & bequeath to Sarah my Eldest Daughter for her to Possess & enjoy & dispose of as she shall think Fitt And I also herebymake & ordain the sd Sarah my Eldest Daughter to be the whole & sole Executrix of this my last will & Testamt to pay my Just Debts & Funeral Charges and to Fulfill this my will in every part according to the true Intent & meaning of the Same And Lastly I do hereby revoke & make void all other Wills, Legacies, bequests at any time by me before names willed & bequeathed Ratifying & Confirming this & no other to be my last Will & Testamt In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the two & twentieth Day of March in the eighth year of the Reign ofour Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain & Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the Year ofour Lord Christ one thousand Seven Hundred thirty & four the mark of Alice Thurtell Signed Sealed & Delivered by the sd Alice Thurtell as her last Will & Testament in the presence of us William Taylor his mark Henry Masters at Norwich 20th of September 1735 then was the Executrix above named Sworn before Jno ? Doctor of Law our Surrogate &c ? ? Ed by me Wm Waller 21 Janry 1768.
