SMH 21 Aug 1849 reported:
An inquest was yesterday held at Mrs. Beirne’s public-house, North Shore, an the body of William Pymble, about 37 years of age, then and there lying dead. From the evidence of Robert Pymble, tho father of deceased, it appeared that between two and three o’clock on Saturday afternoon they were returning from Sydney to Lane Cove with a horse and cart, and stoppod at Mrs, Beirne’s for refreshment; the deceased gave the horse a feed of green barley, and it is supposed took the bit out of the animal’s mouth; after luncheon witness had got into the cart, and deceased was putting the bit into the horse’s mouth, when the horse suddenly took a start at full gallop, the deceased retained a hold of tho horse for a considerable time, but unhappily he stumbled and fell, when the noar wheel went over his body, and his ribs, close to the spine, were both fractured and dislocated. He was taken up and reconveyed to Mrs. Beirnes’s, he expired in about three hours. The jury found that deceased died from injuries accidentally received.
