The Umbercollie history says that Maria met her end under a Pitt St tram. She had just returned from NZ and was carrying rail tickets to Moree and 14 sovereigns at the time. FATAL TRAM ACCIDENT. Shortly after 3pm yesterday a woman named Maria Theresa Treweeke, aged 60, was crossing Pitt-street near the Strand Arcade when she was knocked down by a tram. She was conveyed by Constable Evans to Sydney Hospital, where Dr. Ambrose found her to be suffering from a fracture of the skull. She was in an unconscious condition when admitted, and died from the effects of her injuries at 9 o’clock last night. A steamer ticket from Melbourne was found in her possession. TREWEEKE.—March 14, Maria Theresa Treweeke, accidentally killed, aged 60 years. Funeral will leave Redfern Station for Guyong Cemetery by Western train at 8 p.m., Monday, 17th instant. |
