I did not know Uncle Henry at all well, as after the sale of the Lachlan Stations, he came to Queensland, and lived here until his death. He married a Miss Coleman.
Henry is where he has been for years (Charleville, Queensland) and is doing very well: chiefly keeping cattle now, and they pay much better than sheep, so great a distance from water carriage.
It is with profound regret we have to announce the decease of another of the old pioneers of the colony in the person of Mr. Henry Tom, at Mount Leinster, Dalby. The deceased gentleman was a native of Bathurst, New South Wales. In 1847 he took up, in conjunction with two of his brothers, Booligal station, Lower Lachlan. Having disposed of this in 1858, he came in the following year to Queensland, arriving at the same time as Sir G. F. Bowen. Mr. Tom first stocked country with sheep on the Yeulba, but the place proving unsuitable he moved farther westward and took up Chesterton station, in the Warrego district, which he has owned and managed ever since. About eighteen months ago he purchased a small freehold near Dalby, as with his advancing years he wished to be more in touch with civilisation and the comforts attendant thereon, and at which place the lamentable event took place on Tuesday last. He was universally liked, and admired for his many sterling qualities, and frank open-hearted manner. He leaves a widow and two sons besides a large circle of friends to mourn their loss.  | ||
