Arrived in NSW on the Barwell in 1798, aged 10 years. William McPhillamy and Mary Scott … were both sentenced to transportation for seven years at the Ayr Court of Justiciary on 27 April 1816. Mary arrived at Sydney in February 1817 in the Lord Melville and William in March in the Sir William Bensley. McPhillamy became overseer for Robert Smith at Bathurst and died in 1838. Mary later married Smith whose home station was Mount Tamar. He acquired other runs before he died on 15 December 1851. Childless he left his estate to the McPhillamy children. The eldest McPhillamy was excluded from Smith’s will. |
Mary wife of Robert Smith Esq of Mount Tamar who departed this life June 12 1851 aged 56 years also Robert Smith Esq of Mount Tamar died December 15 1851 aged 60 years.This suggests that Robert and Mary were married. There has been debate as to the marital status of this pair.
