Obituary


Passed home to her rest on the 21st November at her late residence Hastings, Manildra, Mrs. Emma Westfield Hastings Tom (nee Wessie Glazier), the beloved wife of Sydney A., and dearly loved mother of James and Allan Tom, in her 61st year. The deceased had not been enjoying the best of health for some considerable time and it was not realised that she was so ill until she was compelled to take to her bed about four weeks prior to her demise, but although everything possible was done both with the best of medical attention and careful nursing the disease had taken such a hold that nothing further could be done, but fortunately, she suffered little pain the latter stages of her illness. The cause of death was acute Bright’s disease. The deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Jas. Glazier, of Canowindra and Murga, and married the youngest son of the late Nicholas Tom, of Emu Swamp, near Orange. The deceased was always of a bright and happy disposition and had a lovable personality and her first thought was love and devotion to her family. She was ever ready to offer and give help to friends and others when necessary and her many acts of kindness were matters between herself and those directly concerned as she lived a simple life and always did what she could without fuss. The deceased was an accomplished pianist and she had a wonderful memory and ear for music and seldom found it necessary to refer to her books. The late Mrs. Tom spent her younger days in the Canowindra and Murga districts, and afterwards had residence at Emu Swamp, Cumnock, Bogan Gate, Euchareena, and for the past 25 years had resided in Manildra, during which time she always took a leading, part in all public affairs for the benefit of the town and district, especially in connection with the C. of E. flower show, and C.W.A. work. The deceased was also a great lover of flowers, especially roses, of which she had a vast variety and until recent weeks could go round her garden and name them all without reference. The deceased was loved by all with whom she came in contact and her friends were legion.

The deceased leaves to mourn their sad loss, S. A. Tom (husband), James and Allan Tom (sons), Dorothy Tom (daughter-in-law), Lyn, Gwen, and Betty Tom (grand-daughters), Mrs Roger Davis, of Sydney (sister), Albert Glazier, of Parkes (brother), apart from many other near relatives and friends.    Link
