Argentinian immigration records show A B Gowan (born Berwick) as arriving there on the ship Arlanza having embarked at Southampton in July 1938.
The English census of 1911 shows him married to Agnes Jane Gowan and living in Newcastle-on-Tyne with Shipbuilders' Manager as occupation.
Later lived in London at 21 Phillimore Crt, Kensington. Left assets at death of £147/12/5.
Arthur Blackwood Gowan was killed in 1916 in WW1 and his body never found. He was born 1896, son of Mr Arthur B & Mrs A J Gowan of 7 Brandling Park, Newcastle-on-Tyne. The ferry A B Gowan was named after the son. |
