Fanny had previously been engaged to marry her cousin Probart Knox-Davies. Samuel Workman came to South Africa at the end of 1898. He had been ordained for foreign mission work by the Presbyterian Church of Ireland. He first was minister on a trial basis to a group in Cambridge near East london which was subsequently accepted into the Presbyterian Church of South Africa. Later he was the first minister of the Presbyterian Church in Oudtshoorn. [His daughter Vida van Niekerk wrote a biography] |
