Edwin was born exactly one year before the battle of Isandlwana and was educated in Britain. He was an ambulanceman on the Boer side the the Anglo-Boer war and was jailed on his 21st birthday for making pro-Boer remarks. He fought in the First World War in South-West Africa and East Africa and held the rank of Captain. He later mined diamonds at Elandsputte in the Transvaal and farmed near Malmesbury in the Cape. |
