When John Lewis was born on June 20, 1815, in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, his father, John, was 25 and his mother, Ann, was 34. He married Mary-Ann Cox and they had four children together. He then married Clara Browne and they had seven children together. He died on May 27, 1868, in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England, at the age of 52.
