Captain in the Merchant Navy on the Australia run. It is highly probable that he is the Captain J.B. Thurtell shown on a listing of Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria, Australia, shown as reaching Victoria in February 1854 on the ship the ‘Wigram’ which departed from a British port.

John appears to be the Nephew of Anne Thurtell who refers to him in her diary. He is referred to as Capt John Brookes Thurtell. He received £100 in Anne Everitt’s will.
