From the Australian Military Records

FG Grange was at Gallipoli and then in the north of France. He won the Military Medal for bravery, but was then wounded in battle. The stretcher bearers carried him to the first aid post and went back for more wounded. The Germans then shelled the first aid post. Subsequently no trace of FG Grange was found. Stewart conspired with the army to keep the truth from his parents.
